Who needs the TCF Québec or the TEFAQ?

Anyone applying for permanent selection in Québec, for example through the Skilled Worker Selection Program (PSTQ), must show their level of French. Québec’s immigration ministry recognizes several tests, and the TCF Québec and the TEFAQ are the two built for this purpose.

The TCF Canada, the TEF Canada, the DELF and the DALF are also accepted by Québec, which helps if you are applying to both Canada and Québec.

Which skills, and which level?

Québec gives great weight to spoken French, and its skilled worker program now also takes written French into account. The level required depends on your program and your stream, and results are converted to Québec’s own scale of French proficiency.

What is the difference between the TCF Québec and the TEFAQ?

They are two different tests recognized by Québec: the TCF Québec comes from France Éducation International and the TEFAQ from the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Their tasks and timings differ, but both let you take only the skills your program requires.

Can I use my TCF Canada or TEF Canada result for Québec?

Yes. Québec also recognizes the TCF Canada and the TEF Canada, so one test can serve both applications if it covers the skills each program asks for.

How long are the results valid?

Québec accepts results that are two years old or less on the date you apply for permanent selection.

Do you teach Québec French?
